After months of community input, the draft Berkeley Climate Action Plan
is ready for your review and feedback.   Join us at the Shorebird Park
Nature Center in the Berkeley Marina to mark the release of the draft
plan and to learn about ways to get involved with Berkeley's growing
climate protection movement.

Also,
starting on 1/28 community members are invited to review and provide
feedback on the draft plan on-line.  It will be posted at www.BerkeleyClimateAction.org,
a website designed by the City to be a community forum for climate
protection ideas and resources.  Register on the site today!

Event Details:
Where:  Shorebird Park Nature Center at the Berkeley Marina
When:   Monday January 28th, 10 - Noon
What:
An event to announce the release of the draft Berkeley
Climate Action Plan for community review and feedback.  Speakers will
include Mayor Tom Bates; Professor Dan Kammen, Director of UC
Berkeley's Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (http://rael.berkeley.edu/about); and others.

community members can review and provide feedback on the plan before it
becomes final, and provide other ideas and resources for getting
involved in the Berkeley climate action movement.

Getting there
AC Transit is providing a Hydrogen Fuel Cell bus to transport people to
and from the marina.  Meet in front of Berkeley City Hall (2180 Milvia
St.) at 10am to ride the bus to the event.  The bus will drop us back
off in downtown Berkeley by noon.

Space on the bus is limited!  If you would like a spot on the bus RSVP to MeasureG@ci.berkeley.ca.us by Tuesday, January 22nd.

The
Berkeley Marina is also accessible by existing bus routes (Bus 51).

More Background Info on the Climate Action Plan:
The
Berkeley climate action planning process was set in motion in November
2006 with the passage of ballot Measure G.  The measure established an
80% reduction target for Berkeley's community-wide greenhouse gas
emissions and directed the City to develop a plan for achieving that
target and interim targets.

The
purpose of the Climate Action Plan is to guide the development and
enhancement of efforts that cut the greenhouse gas emissions for which
our community is responsible.

On January 28th the plan is to be released in draft form
so community members have the opportunity to review and provide
feedback before it is delivered to City Council in its final form.  The
draft climate plan was developed through extensive community input and
research on potential climate protection strategies.

Community
members will have the opportunity to comment on the plan on-line as
well as at numerous public workshops being organized for that purpose.
A full workshop schedule will be available soon.

City staff is providing a presentation on the draft Climate Action Plan for Berkeley City Council on Tuesday, January 29th.

Feel free to contact me with questions.  Hope to see you on January 28th.

And Happy 2008!  Here's to making the new year a "climate-friendly" one!
