(04/2022) Reclaim Our Power spoke out last week about the atrocious deal made between PG&E and District Attorney's in 7 fire damaged counties. Despite being the clear cause of the death and destruction of the Kincade and Dixie Fires, PG&E will not face criminal oversight or structural changes that actually serve to keep Californians safe.

(04/2022)  Hi! My name is Christie Fok and I am the Climate Resilience Hub Fellow with the New Voices are Rising Program (NVAR).

I first started my environmental justice journey in the summer of 2021 with the Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN) in their summer APEN academy. I learned about environmental and social justice issues like the Chevron Oil refinery and particularly, climate resilience hubs.

In January 2022, PG&E raised electricity rates by 8% and gas praises by 11%. In March 2022, PG&E raised rates again by 8.9% with the approval of the CPUC. With these prior rate hikes during the pandemic, many people, especially low-income folks, struggle to pay the PG&E bill and other costs of living.

Outrageously, PG&E recently proposed an additional 22% rate hike to be in effect from 2023 to 2026. If the CPUC approves this rate hike, PG&E customers will have to pay an additional $35 per month or $425 per year for electricity and gas. PG&E claims the rate hike would fund the improvement of their grossly neglected energy systems and wildfire mitigation.

(03/2022) Efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from existing buildings have gained momentum throughout governmental agencies in California. If accomplished, the transition could bring health and comfort benefits along with climate change mitigation. However, the costly, involved process of household decarbonization could also increase displacement, homelessness, foreclosure and gentrification in already burdened Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Recognizing these downsides, many governmental agencies have dubbed planning process as, “equitable” building decarbonization. Local Clean Energy Alliance (LCEA) has joined with other California environmental justice organizations in advocacy efforts with governmental agencies to ensure that the “equitable” is more than just a marketing ploy.

After causing the second largest wildfire in history, shutting off power to thousands, poisoning the lungs of people across the state, and being called a “menace” by a federal judge, PG&E actually raised your utility bill this year. Twice already!  

And, to add insult to all of those injuries- they are at it again, demanding another rate increase to line the pockets of PG&E’s Wall St. investors.

(02/2022) An effort by the state’s monopoly utilities to kill the growth of rooftop solar in California has been put on ice, at least temporarily. Due to a well-organized campaign to Save California Solar, Governor Newsom told the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to shelve a proposed decision to gut the state’s Net Metering program.
