Conference Participant Welcome Letter

In the wake of the worldwide euphoria after Obama’s election, we find ourselves living in a world that seems hopelessly out of control. We all know the problems. Yet a shift is happening in how we see the world and how we live our lives. It is a shift from global to local, from centralized to distributed, from consumption to conservation. Nowhere is this shift more apparent than in how we power our lives.

A leading edge of the shift is the Bay Area's local clean energy movement, which intends to drastically reduce greenhouse gases and create tens of thousands of new clean energy jobs. Yet even as this movement envisions a mostly renewable Bay Area grid, there are a multitude of challenges that threaten its very existence, including finances, an ill-founded ballot initiative, and special interests.

This conference brings together key players in the movement to identify opportunities for collaboration on clean energy job creation, financing, climate action, stopping dirty power plants, and neutralizing threats to the movement itself.

Thank you for being an integral part of this gathering.
