On March 17, the Local Clean Energy Alliance and Greenlining Institute will host a press conference on Proposition 16. PG&E has stated it plans to spend up to $35 million on this monopoly protection scheme, named the "New Two-Thirds Requirement for Local Public Electricity Providers."Prop 16 would amend the Constitution to require local governments to obtain a 2/3 super-majority voter approval before issuing public financing for a Community Choice energy program or for extending a public power utility.

WHAT: A press conference hosted by the Local Clean Energy Alliance and The Greenlining Institute that will include several speakers on the impact of Proposition 16 on Bay Area, with a focus on its impacts on people of color and low-income communities. The press conference will be followed by a rally. After the rally the speakers will attend the CPUC's informational hearing on Prop 16 and provide public comment.

The Local Clean Energy Alliance and TURN are in opposition to Prop 16.
Greenlining Institute, a multi-ethnic consumer protection organization, is currently neutral on Prop 16.
