PG&E told to stop contacting Marin customers

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. will be prohibited from offering people a way out of the Marin's "clean energy" plan until the Marin Energy Authority itself initiates its own opt-out process and provides information about its rates, terms and conditions to customers, the state Public Utilities Commission ruled Thursday.
The Marin Energy Authority is competing with PG&E as an energy retailer in Marin with the aim of cutting the emission of greenhouse gases by boosting renewable energy use. PG&E has been notifying some 9,000 customers - the first to be included in the Marin Clean Energy initiative - about how to opt out of the program. Those customers, who are in the first phase of the Marin Clean Energy plan, could receive power via the Marin Energy Authority in May.
