Put it in My Backyard

California's utilities, such as PG&E, must procure 33 percent of the energy they sell from renewable sources by 2020. Currently, most of that energy is being sited in areas far away from our communities, in far off locations like the Mojave Desert. Meanwhile, the big rooftops, parking lots, and disturbed land located in cities and suburbs that could be used to supply solar energy to the grid are being overlooked. Governor Jerry Brown says he wants to see more clean energy development come to our communities, and I agree!
I call on my City Council to take a stand for local renewable energy, local economic benefits, and local clean energy jobs, and send a message to the state that when it comes to electric power, we want the utilities to procure it from clean energy sources in our backyard!
