Conference Organizer/Coordinator

The Local Clean Energy Alliance (LCEA), the Bay Area's largest clean energy coalition, with some 90 affiliated member organizations, including environmental justice, social justice, environmental, business, and community groups, seeks a motivated and organized part-time consultant to assist with our upcoming fifth Clean Power, Healthy Communities conference. The conference, scheduled for March 2015, is a one-day event that draws about 150 local participants and a national webcast audience.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience on energy policy advocacy while providing needed assistance with our conference organizing efforts. A major part of the work is soliciting conference sponsorships, which are used to fund the Organizer/Coordinator position.

The consultant has the option to work out of our host organization, Bay Localize, in downtown Oakland. The consultant will collaborate with the LCEA Coordinator for a period of about six months, starting September 1, and is slated to work 20 hours/week.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Convening a conference planning team of LCEA Steering Committee members
  • Facilitating and taking notes at meetings and distributing to team members
  • Coordinating the program formulation, conference sponsorship, speaker outreach, publicity, registration, media, and logistics for the conference
  • Reaching out to secure sponsors, speakers, and other participants
  • Making logistical arrangements for the conference
  • Creating written materials, including a conference program book, as needed
  • Representing LCEA on phone and in-person

Qualifications:

  • Available 20 hours/week for a minimum of 6 months
  • Good organizing and leadership skills, including setting up meetings and events
  • Basic technical skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Windows,Word, Excel
  • Skilled in using social networking platforms
  • Responsible, very organized, and detail-oriented
  • Good written and verbal communication and people skills, in-person and on the phone
  • Quick learner who is interested in learning about local renewable energy systems, sustainable development, community resilience, and social justice
