We at the Local Clean Energy Alliance are working to develop a new energy paradigm, one that not only addresses the  climate crisis but also focuses on equity. This work has seen many accomplishments, not only through our annual Clean Power, Healthy Communities conferences, but also through our leadership in placing electric power under public control through Community Choice energy programs.
 
This year’s Clean Power, Healthy Communities conference brought together 150 clean energy advocates and a national webcast audience in an inspiring day of deliberations on strategies for democratizing our energy system. Check out the program and videos, and especially Envisioning Energy Democracy, the five-minute video capturing highlights of the conference.
 
Our work to establish strong Community Choice programs throughout the Bay Area is gaining momentum. Although PG&E attempted to kill Community Choice in California last year through AB 2145, we provided crucial leadership in a successful statewide campaign to defeat passage of this bill. As a result, Alameda County is now moving forward to establish a Community Choice energy program. The Local Clean Energy Alliance is at the forefront of the effort to see that this program provides strong environmental and economic benefits to the communities of the East Bay.
